Seasonal flowers in Mexico: origin and ordering

For a flower gift in Mexico, compare roses and gerberas. If you want flowers grown near the delivery destination, ask for their growing municipality or region before choosing the bouquet. For Day of the Dead, decide whether you need cut cempasúchil for vases or a potted plant.

Roses: where you buy them and where they were grown

The Villa Guerrero wholesale market in the State of Mexico brings together rose producers and other traders. Buying there identifies a trading location; knowing your flowers’ origin also requires the growing location of the batch.

If you want roses grown near the delivery destination, ask for the municipality or region. For a mixed bouquet, specify which flowers must meet that preference. The florist’s address alone does not provide that information.

Protected gerberas and the offer for a specific date

Gerbera production is concentrated in the State of Mexico, and protected cultivation allows year-round production. That does not confirm a colour or variety for any particular order.

If you choose gerberas as a gift, state the date and the colour you want to retain. Ask for a bouquet proposal using flowers that can be confirmed for that delivery and the origin you are seeking.

Cempasúchil in October: a local case from 2026

In October 2026, Mexico City’s cempasúchil campaign for Day of the Dead included production from Xochimilco and Tláhuac and cut flowers.

For an ofrenda with vases, ask for cut stems. If you want a plant, specify a pot. Before buying, check which presentation is offered and where it was grown.

A gift in Toluca with a clear priority

You could order: “I would like a small bouquet delivered in Toluca on [date]. I like red roses, but my priority is knowing the growing municipality. If you cannot confirm that origin, please propose gerberas with a known origin before we finalise the order.”

If red is essential, change the order’s priority. State that you want to retain the colour and be consulted before the flower species is changed. That way a substitution follows what you value in the gift.

Frequently asked questions

What if they can only tell me the flowers were grown in Mexico?

That identifies the country. If you wanted a closer origin, ask for the growing state or municipality. Decide whether the detail they can provide meets your preference before ordering.

Does the roses’ origin also apply to the rest of the bouquet?

Do not extend it to gerberas or other flowers added. If you want the whole bouquet to follow an origin criterion, include the foliage too and agree which parts may change.
