Which flowers to take to Alicante’s Hogueras offering

Alicante · Local

For the Hogueras flower offering start with your festival committee’s instructions. Confirm species, colour and format before ordering your bouquet. The carnation in this guide is our suggestion. The offering takes place in Alicante on 21 and 22 June and your assigned day depends on the organisers.

Guide to adding Agenda Floral to Apple and Google Calendar

Apple or Google decide when to check for updates. We cannot guarantee that changes appear immediately. Importing the file gives you a copy that does not receive our future corrections. Importing again may duplicate events. We do not add alarms, although your calendar may apply its own alerts.

Confirm your day before reserving flowers

The Federation places the offering to the Virgen del Remedio on 21 and 22 June. This is an Alicante event and the date in this guide covers both days.

The 2026 municipal programme assigned committees 1 to 45 to the first day and 46 to 92 to the second. That split shows why you should ask about your own slot. For the next edition confirm the day and meeting point with your committee before arranging collection. The 2026 programme does not book your future participation.

Choose flowers once you have the instructions

If your committee lets you choose you could suggest carnations for a cut-flower bouquet. Their ruffled petals offer a different texture and NC State documents their use as cut flowers. Do not choose a colour from the photo alone. Ask what this edition’s composition needs and pass those instructions to your florist.

If the requested species or shade is unavailable ask to be consulted before any change. An alternative you like may not fit what the group agreed. Clarify who will approve a substitution so that participants do not receive conflicting answers.

The format depends on how you take part

The Federation explains that bouquets form a floral mosaic and that some committees carry compositions on structures called catafalcos. For a bouquet you will carry yourself ask how it should be prepared. For a collective contribution first agree with the committee who will receive and assemble it.

Tell your florist how far you will walk and whether you will carry anything else. A bouquet you can hold comfortably makes the journey easier. Its size and presentation should follow the instructions you received. There is no need to add a vase if the flowers will be received another way.

Agree a specific collection and handover

You could ask “My committee has confirmed the 21st and given me these bouquet instructions. I want to collect it before going to the meeting point. This is my budget. Please call before substituting any flowers.” This is an example order you can adapt to your assigned day and format.

For a group delivery confirm the handover location and a contact person. The Co-cathedral’s address or a point along the route cannot replace that agreement. If you cannot bring the flowers yourself ask whether your committee can receive them another way before booking delivery.

Until departure keep the flowers in a clean container away from heat sources. This is general RHS care advice. Ask your florist how to carry the bouquet on your journey and try to collect it without adding unnecessary stops. The transport guide helps plan the journey and the delivery guide explains what to agree with the recipient.

For a gift to someone taking part

A personal gift can be given at another time. Ask whether they would prefer it at home or after taking part. That way they will not have to manage two bouquets during the parade.

For that gift you can choose a colour they enjoy and consider the container they will use on arrival. If you want your flowers to be part of the offering first agree how they will be included. Alicante’s instructions do not apply to the Fallas offering in València. Its guide explains that separate event.

Which flowers to choose

We suggest flowers that may suit each occasion. Where a custom is documented, we explain it separately. For a personal gift you can choose another flower if you know the recipient will like it more.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Hogueras flower offering on 21 or 22 June?

It covers both days. Your committee should confirm your assigned day and slot. Check that edition’s programme before reserving flowers.

Do I have to bring carnations in a particular colour?

Carnations are our flower suggestion. For participation follow your committee’s instructions on species and colour. Do not treat this guide’s photo as a required model.

Can I bring flowers without belonging to a committee?

Ask the Federation how to take part independently and where flowers would be received. This guide does not confirm unrestricted participation or a handover point for individuals.

Can I send a bouquet without attending the parade?

First ask whether the committee can receive it and agree a location, time window and contact. Then discuss delivery with your florist. Do not send flowers to a point along the route without an agreement.

What if my slot changes after I order the bouquet?

Tell your florist and agree collection or delivery again. Also ask how to care for the flowers until departure. Do not assume a reservation or delivery can be changed without conditions.

How we put these guides together

We consult institutional sources to check dates and customs. For plant facts, we use horticultural sources. Our gift ideas start with each flower’s appearance and the recipient’s taste. A shop link documents a particular offer. It does not prove that a flower is popular or part of a tradition. We keep adding to this selection rather than claiming to cover every species.
