Which flowers to take to the Magdalena offering at Lledó

Castelló de la Plana · Local

If you are taking part in the Magdalena flower offering ask your gaiata or participating group how the bouquet should be prepared. The event takes place in Castelló de la Plana on the festival’s second Saturday and the date changes each year. You could suggest carnations if you are free to choose. Confirm the format and colour your group needs before ordering.

Guide to adding Agenda Floral to Apple and Google Calendar

Apple or Google decide when to check for updates. We cannot guarantee that changes appear immediately. Importing the file gives you a copy that does not receive our future corrections. Importing again may duplicate events. We do not add alarms, although your calendar may apply its own alerts.

When the offering takes place and which day to keep free

The Real Cofradía del Lledó places the offering on the second Saturday of Magdalena. Turisme Comunitat Valenciana explains that the festival begins on the third Saturday of Lent. Keeping the same date in March every year will therefore not work.

In 2026 the festival ran from 7 to 15 March and the offering was scheduled for Saturday 14 March. This page shows each year’s date using the annual rule. Before arranging your journey check the current programme and your group’s meeting point.

The Romeria and May festivities are separate events

The Romeria de les Canyes takes place on the third Sunday of Lent. It is separate from the offering the following Saturday although both belong to Magdalena. The basilica also lists its May festivities separately. If someone asks you for flowers for Lledó ask which celebration they mean.

This occasion covers the Magdalena offering in Castelló. Its local label distinguishes it from a province-wide celebration and from the Fallas offering in València. Each event has its own instructions.

Choose the bouquet with your gaiata or group

The Junta Central Fallera describes delivering its bouquets at the basilica during the 2025 edition alongside gaiatas and other associations. If you are joining a group ask who coordinates the flowers. Find out whether each person carries a bouquet or contributes flowers to a shared arrangement.

The cover carnation is a suggestion to help you choose when that choice is yours. The picture does not specify a colour or species required by the organisers. If your group gives you a reference take it to your florist and agree that any changes should be checked first.

Arrange collection before joining your group

You could say “I am joining the offering with my gaiata and these are the bouquet instructions. I will carry it on foot from the meeting point. I would like to collect it before we meet and this is my budget.” Adapt this example once you know your slot.

Check that you can hold it comfortably during the route. Ask your florist how to protect it until you leave and see our transport guide if you are travelling by car. If someone else will carry the flowers agree where and when to hand them over. The basilica’s address alone does not confirm that a courier can deliver your bouquet there.

Attending independently or giving someone flowers

If you do not belong to a participating group ask the Patronat de Festes how to take part before buying flowers for the parade. The general programme does not confirm your slot or handover arrangements. If you simply want to watch you can enjoy the event without organising a floral contribution.

For a gift to someone taking part choose another handover time that suits them. A bouquet for home after the festivities may spare them carrying two during the route. If you want your gift included in the offering agree first how their group will receive it.

Which flowers to choose

We suggest flowers that may suit each occasion. Where a custom is documented, we explain it separately. For a personal gift you can choose another flower if you know the recipient will like it more.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Lledó offering have a fixed date in March?

No. It takes place on Magdalena’s second Saturday and follows the Lenten calendar. Check the date shown on this page and that edition’s programme.

Is it the same event as the Romeria de les Canyes?

They are separate events. The Romeria takes place on the third Sunday of Lent and the Magdalena offering follows the next Saturday.

Do I have to bring carnations in a specific colour?

Ask your gaiata or participating group. The carnations on this page are our suggestion rather than a rule about species, colour or quantity.

Can I send a bouquet directly to the basilica?

Check first whether that delivery is accepted for the offering and who will receive your bouquet. Do not book a courier using only the building’s address.

Does this page cover Lledó’s May festivities?

No. It covers the Magdalena offering. The May festivities have their own programme and do not share this occasion’s date.

Sources and what they support

How we put these guides together

We consult institutional sources to check dates and customs. For plant facts, we use horticultural sources. Our gift ideas start with each flower’s appearance and the recipient’s taste. A shop link documents a particular offer. It does not prove that a flower is popular or part of a tradition. We keep adding to this selection rather than claiming to cover every species.
