Three Kings’ Day in Mexico: flowers for a rosca gathering

Mexico · Nationwide

In Mexico Three Kings’ Day is celebrated every 6 January, and sharing the rosca sweet bread brings family and friends together. If you are visiting, we suggest alstroemerias for your hosts. A small bouquet with a vase can accompany your greeting without occupying the table where the rosca will be served.

6 January and the day of your gathering

Rosca de Reyes is shared in Mexico on 6 January. To bring flowers, use the day and time of your gathering, even if you meet on another date.

If you send them ahead, agree on a time when someone can receive them. State on the order that they are a gift for the home to distinguish them from a contribution to the gathering’s decorations.

A gift for the home or an arrangement for the table

Alstroemerias have flower clusters and small petal markings. Compare gerberas for their open shape or carnations for their ruffled petals. Choose colours with your hosts in mind.

As a gift, a bouquet with a vase lets your hosts place the flowers on another piece of furniture. If you have agreed on a table arrangement, ask for a low format and measure the space left for the rosca and cups. Include the container when assessing the size.

An order and a card for your hosts

You could order: “I would like alstroemerias for Lourdes and Mateo, who have invited us to share rosca. I will bring the gift already arranged in a narrow vase for the entrance console. I need to collect it on the day of the gathering.” Add the available dimensions and the specific date.

The card could say: “Lourdes and Mateo, thank you for making room for us to start the year together. With love, Inés.”
