When to give fresh or dried globe amaranth
Globe amaranth may suit a purple-pink gift with a different texture. Its small rounded heads can add colour to a mixed bouquet or a simple group of a few stems. For a birthday or a thank-you gift I would choose the format the recipient likes before deciding whether to give it fresh or dried.

Botanical reference: Gomphrena globosa
What you are choosing
This guide covers Gomphrena globosa. Its most noticeable parts are the coloured bracts, papery structures around the tiny flowers. NC State describes pink, purple or white heads and Wisconsin Extension confirms both fresh and dried uses.
Craspedia also has a rounded shape but is a different plant. Visit that guide if you want yellow spheres. For globe amaranth take the botanical name and agree on the colour with the florist. Wisconsin distinguishes G. globosa from selections and hybrids of G. haageana, so a red or orange photograph alone does not confirm the same species.
A small gift in a colour they like
For a narrow shelf you could ask for a few stems with a container that fits the space. For a mixed bouquet explain that you want the globe amaranth heads to remain visible among the other flowers. These are arrangement suggestions to help with your order rather than a birthday tradition.
You could say: “I would like a small thank-you gift with purple globe amaranth. It will go on a narrow shelf and I want the rounded heads to show. Could you include a container and show me how it would look fresh or dried?” Check availability and a substitute before agreeing on delivery.
Keeping a few stems after the gift
Wisconsin Extension explains that globe amaranth retains shape and colour well when dried. It recommends fully open heads that are not too old because ageing heads may fall apart. If you want to keep part of a bouquet start before it deteriorates.
Identify and separate the stems you want to keep. The Iowa State guide describes removing foliage and hanging small bunches upside down in a dark, ventilated place for air drying. Ask whether your stems need support. Not every part of a bouquet needs the same method and the result may change in colour or volume.
Agree on what the recipient will receive
Ask whether the gift will arrive fresh or already dried and whether it has dyes or a preservation treatment. This helps you compare the actual arrangement with a reference image. Request vase and water instructions for fresh stems. For a dried arrangement ask about care and protection during transport.
We cannot promise a fixed number of days for every bouquet. A growing profile also does not establish what a Spanish florist will have on a particular date. Our fresh or dried flowers guide helps you choose which finish to give.
When we suggest it in Spain
We suggest flowers that may suit each occasion. Where a custom is documented, we explain it separately. For a personal gift you can choose another flower if you know the recipient will like it more.
Frequently asked questions
Does the papery texture mean globe amaranth is already dried?
No. The bracts have that texture in fresh flowers too. Ask how the stems have been prepared so you can request the right care instructions.
Can I dry a whole bouquet containing globe amaranth?
Identify the other flowers first. You can separate the globe amaranth and check what each component needs before trying to preserve the entire bouquet with one method.

How we put these guides together
We consult institutional sources to check dates and customs. For plant facts, we use horticultural sources. Our gift ideas start with each flower’s appearance and the recipient’s taste. A shop link documents a particular offer. It does not prove that a flower is popular or part of a tradition. We keep adding to this selection rather than claiming to cover every species.
