When to give astilbe and how to order it in a bouquet
Agenda Floral · Editorial selection · Reviewed
If you want a bouquet with a soft, light texture, consider astilbe as an accompanying flower. We suggest it for an anniversary or wedding when it suits the recipient’s taste. Agree on the variety, colour and arrangements for keeping it hydrated before ordering.

Botanical reference: Astilbe japonica
Which flower you are ordering
NC State documents Astilbe japonica as a cut flower. The name astilbe also covers hybrids: RHS distinguishes japonica hybrids from other groups, including Astilbe × arendsii. Their height and flowering time can differ.
Take a picture as a texture reference and ask for the name of the available variety. Our pink illustration does not identify a particular cultivar or guarantee that its colour is on sale.
How to include it in a gift
For an anniversary, we suggest pairing it with the recipient’s favourite flower. For a wedding, show your florist the whole arrangement you have in mind: a hand-held bouquet and a table centrepiece need different preparation.
Ask for one proposal with astilbe and another without it to compare shape and budget. If a particular colour matters, agree on a substitute before confirming the order.
What to arrange before collection
Explain the journey length, delivery time and whether a vase will be available. If the flowers will wait through a ceremony, ask for preparation that takes this into account.
Flowering in a growing guide does not establish retail availability across Spain. Ask about supply for your date; we do not assume every variety is available all year.
A bouquet and a plant need different care
For cut stems, RHS recommends a clean container, removing submerged leaves and a cool position. Follow your florist’s instructions for the particular arrangement too.
If you prefer giving the plant, RHS notes that astilbe needs moisture without waterlogging and protection from strong sun. Discuss the position with a nursery before choosing it for a hot terrace.
Frequently asked questions
Does pink astilbe have a compulsory meaning?
We do not assign one. Choose it for its appearance and the recipient’s preferences; a card can explain what you want to say.
Can I order exactly what the picture shows?
You can use it as a reference, but it is a generated illustration. Confirm the actual variety and colour with the florist.
How many stems do I need for a wedding bouquet?
That depends on the size, other flowers and astilbe’s role in the arrangement. Request a complete proposal instead of setting a stem count before seeing the design.
How many days will it last in a vase?
We do not promise a fixed number: variety, stem condition and handling all matter. Ask your florist for an estimate and care instructions with delivery.

How we put these guides together
We check dates and customs against institutional sources, and botanical information against horticultural sources. Gift suggestions consider a flower’s appearance and the recipient’s taste. Commercial references document an offer, not popularity or a tradition. This initial catalogue is a growing editorial selection, not a list of every species.
