Flowers and a thank-you for Secretaries’ Day in Argentina
Argentina · Nationwide
Argentina observes Secretaries’ Day on 4 September. To thank someone for their work, start with a note explaining what you appreciated. You could add a small gerbera bouquet if you know they like them. Before sending it, ask whether they would prefer it at work or at another time. Flowers are an optional idea, not a requirement of this date.

Guide to adding Agenda Floral to Apple and Google Calendar
Apple or Google decide when to check for updates. We cannot guarantee that changes appear immediately. Importing the file gives you a copy that does not receive our future corrections. Importing again may duplicate events. We do not add alarms, although your calendar may apply its own alerts.
4 September is the Argentine date
The La Plata regional College of Speech Therapists identifies 4 September as the annual date in its 2026 post. The Buenos Aires government confirms the Argentine observance and points out that people of different genders work in this profession. We group it as a national occasion because of its scope in Argentina. That label does not indicate a public holiday.
If you are arranging the gift from another country, use the date where the recipient works. Also confirm whether they will be there that day. The calendar occasion does not set a meeting, a receiving time or the date of a company event.
Thank them for something specific and choose by their tastes
You can acknowledge help that made your work easier. A note such as “Thank you for helping us organise the meeting when everything changed at the last minute. We really appreciated your calm approach and attention” can be a starting point if that happened. Replace the example with something real and sign with the names of those who want to say thanks.
Choose flowers by what the person enjoys. There is no need to select a colour based on gender or write compliments about their appearance. Do not turn the gift into a request for help with the next task either. If they prefer not to receive gifts, a note or a thank-you at an agreed time can be enough.
A bouquet to take home or an arrangement for a shared space
The RHS describes gerberas as daisy-like flowers in various colours and notes their use as cut flowers. We suggest them if you want to highlight a shade the person likes. Ask which varieties the florist can prepare for your date. Sources for the observance do not name an official flower or a tradition of giving gerberas.
For a gift to an individual, ask whether they will take it home and what their journey involves. A compact bouquet may be easier to carry than an arrangement in a heavy container. If the gift will stay in a shared space, agree where it will stand and who will care for the flowers. Do not choose a pot by default because it means looking after a plant afterwards.
Agree the handover before leaving flowers at reception
First ask whether they would like the gift at work and whether the workplace accepts that type of delivery. Then agree a contact and a time that avoids interrupting meetings or public-facing work. Having a reception desk does not mean it can store flowers until the following day.
You could ask: “We want to thank a colleague for helping us organise an event. They like coral shades and have agreed to receive a bouquet at the end of the working day. They will then go home by bus. Could you prepare something compact within this budget and check with us before changing the colour?” Confirm the size including wrapping and explain how long the journey will take.
If they would rather take the gift at another time, arrange collection for then. For a shared table, ask whether a container is needed and how much space is available. The transport guide helps you plan the journey without expecting the recipient to sort out packaging while working.
A thank-you from a group
Choose one person to finalise the order and check who the gift is for. A card for the whole secretarial team and a bouquet for one individual express different things. To recognise several people, you can prepare separate notes with personal reasons without buying a bouquet for each one.
Make participation voluntary. People can contribute a sentence or sign the card without paying. Agree the total budget before buying and avoid making the handover a public presentation if the recipients would prefer something discreet. The thank-you guide explores these choices and the card guide helps you find your own words.
Which flowers to choose
We suggest flowers that may suit each occasion. Where a custom is documented, we explain it separately. For a personal gift you can choose another flower if you know the recipient will like it more.

Gerbera
Main flower in our selectionA suggestion for someone who likes an open flower shape with colour taking the lead. Confirm the shade and a size that is easy to receive or take home.

Carnation
Another option if you know they like carnations. Format and personal preferences matter more than assigning a meaning to their profession.
Frequently asked questions
When is Secretaries’ Day in Argentina?
4 September. This page and its event use the Argentine date. Do not apply it to another country without checking its own observance.
Which flowers are given on this date?
Gerberas are our suggestion if the recipient likes them. You can choose carnations or another flower based on their preferences. The sources consulted do not establish a required species or colour.
Can I send a bouquet to the office?
Ask whether the person would like it there and whether the workplace accepts the delivery. Confirm who will receive it and when the recipient can take it home. If it does not suit them, agree another time.
What should I write on the card?
Explain a particular piece of help you want to acknowledge and sign. Start with “Thank you for helping us organise that event” if it reflects what happened. Avoid inventing familiarity or adding another request to your thanks.
Does every colleague have to contribute money?
You can let everyone choose how to participate. Signing or adding a message can be part of the thanks without contributing to the purchase. Agree this before ordering the gift.
Sources and what they support
- Colegio de Fonoaudiólogos · Regional La Plata, 4/9/2026
The post dated 4 September 2026 identifies that annual date as Día de la Secretaria y el Secretario in Argentina. Its greeting to administrative staff does not prescribe gifts or an official flower.
- Gobierno de Buenos Aires · Día de la Secretaria
Places the Argentine observance on 4 September and explains that people of different genders work in this profession. The competing accounts of its origin are not used and this date is not extended to other countries.
- Royal Horticultural Society · Gerberas
Describes gerberas as daisy-like flowers in various colours and their use as cut flowers. Does not establish availability in Argentina in September or a professional symbolic meaning.
How we put these guides together
We consult institutional sources to check dates and customs. For plant facts, we use horticultural sources. Our gift ideas start with each flower’s appearance and the recipient’s taste. A shop link documents a particular offer. It does not prove that a flower is popular or part of a tradition. We keep adding to this selection rather than claiming to cover every species.
