Flowers for Our Lady of Luján: a gift or an offering

Luján · Local

Our Lady of Luján’s feast day is 8 May. For someone who values this date you could prepare a small carnation bouquet in a colour they enjoy. Before taking flowers to the Sanctuary ask whether they can receive them and how to arrange it. The May feast and the October youth pilgrimage are separate occasions.

8 May in Luján

The Sanctuary documents the annual feast on 8 May. This page focuses on Luján in Buenos Aires province and is labelled as a local occasion. Our Lady’s patronage of Argentina does not mean every town holds the same ceremony or that the date is a public holiday throughout the country.

To plan a visit look for the programme for the edition you will attend. The published 2026 times belong to that year. Do not use them to book a future delivery without checking again.

A gift for someone close to you

Start by finding out whether they would welcome flowers for this date. For someone with a personal devotion you could give a bouquet for their home with a note about what you want to share. For someone who does not celebrate the occasion another moment may be a better fit.

We suggest carnations for someone who enjoys ruffled petals. Lisianthus is another option for a softer shape. Choose their favourite colour and match the size to where the flowers will stand. These are our ideas rather than an official flower for the feast.

Before preparing an offering

A private gift and an offering at the Basilica need different preparation. We have not found a bouquet handover procedure in the consulted sources. Use the Sanctuary’s official contact channels to ask whether flowers are accepted and what needs to be agreed before buying them.

If reception is confirmed ask about the handover point, time, format and whether containers are accepted. Then give those instructions to the florist. Do not order a delivery to the door assuming staff can receive or arrange it.

For example: “I would like to bring flowers on 8 May. Can you receive them? If so, who should I contact to agree the place and format?” Without confirmed reception you can save the bouquet for someone close to you or your home.

The October pilgrimage is a separate occasion

The Sanctuary announced the 2026 Youth Pilgrimage for 3 and 4 October. That programme does not change the 8 May feast. This page’s calendar records May only and is neither a registration nor a schedule of every pilgrimage.

If you will join a walk check its instructions before adding a bouquet to your luggage. For a gift to someone taking part you could agree to give it at home. They will not need to carry it along the route.

From the order to somewhere to put the flowers

For a personal gift you could ask: “I would like a small carnation bouquet for someone who celebrates Our Lady of Luján. They enjoy this colour and have little space. I will collect it after the visit and give it at home.” Confirm available flowers and explain the journey.

If you do not know whether they have a free vase ask about an arrangement with a container. The RHS recommends a clean vase and checking cut flowers’ water. Ask for care instructions for the chosen format and consult the transport guide if you will make several stops.

A card can be simple: “I thought of you for this day that matters to you. I hope we can spend some time together.” Adapt it to your relationship without attaching a religious promise to the bouquet or a meaning the recipient does not share.

Which flowers to choose

We suggest flowers that may suit each occasion. Where a custom is documented, we explain it separately. For a personal gift you can choose another flower if you know the recipient will like it more.

Frequently asked questions

When is Our Lady of Luján’s feast day?

8 May every year. This page records the local celebration in Luján, Buenos Aires. Check the Sanctuary’s programme for the times of the edition you want to attend.

Can I take a bouquet straight to the Basilica?

We do not treat reception as confirmed. Ask the Sanctuary before buying and agree the place, time and format if flowers are accepted. A published contact or Mass time does not reserve a handover.

Which flowers should I bring?

The consulted sources do not set a required species or colour. The cover carnation is our suggestion for a personal gift. For an agreed offering follow its instructions rather than treating our recommendation as a rule.

Is this the same date as the youth pilgrimage?

No. The feast is on 8 May and the youth pilgrimage has its October announcement. The 2026 programme placed it on 3 and 4 October. This calendar series includes only the May feast.

Why does Buenos Aires appear in the territory selector?

The occasion takes place in Luján and is grouped under its province so you can find it in the selector. The Luján · Local label identifies the ceremony’s scope. It does not mean every town in the province holds the same celebration.

How we put these guides together

We consult institutional sources to check dates and customs. For plant facts, we use horticultural sources. Our gift ideas start with each flower’s appearance and the recipient’s taste. A shop link documents a particular offer. It does not prove that a flower is popular or part of a tradition. We keep adding to this selection rather than claiming to cover every species.
