Which flowers to give for Father’s Day in Argentina
Argentina · Nationwide
Father’s Day in Argentina falls on the third Sunday in June. If he enjoys flowers choose them by their shape and where he will put them. We suggest a sunflower for someone who likes a large bloom or gerberas for a different scale. You do not need a bouquet marketed as masculine.

The date used in this guide
The Electoral Tribunal of Misiones documents the third Sunday in June as the annual celebration in Argentina. This does not mean that every country celebrates on the same date. If you organise the gift from abroad check the destination’s date instead of using your own country’s.
Mendoza also has a provincial commemoration on 24 August with its own guide. If your father lives there ask which date the family celebrates before arranging delivery. The June occasion and the provincial date appear separately so you can tell them apart.
Choose for his taste and his space
If large blooms appeal to him you can show a sunflower as a reference. Ask about arrangement dimensions to check whether it fits where he will display it. A gerbera or a lisianthus bouquet lets you compare other shapes. We do not assume a particular species will be available in June.
A plant may suit him if he enjoys caring for one and has a suitable place. For something he can display straight away ask about an arrangement with a container. Our bouquet or plant guide helps you decide without turning the gift into a task.
An example for a small table
You could say: “I would like flowers for my father. He has a small table where he reads and likes yellow. What could you prepare with a sunflower and a container that does not take up much room?” Ask for approximate dimensions before deciding. If that format will not fit ask about a gerbera in a colour he likes.
The size of a gift does not measure affection. You can write a note about a conversation or an activity you share. The example is an order idea rather than an offer every florist must be able to prepare.
Deliver without complicating his day
If you are going out you could leave the bouquet at home beforehand or give it when you return. For delivery agree on a window when he can receive it. If you carry it yourself plan the journey and container with the florist.
The sources support the date. The cover sunflower and alternatives are editorial suggestions. We do not present an official Father’s Day flower or assign preferences by the recipient’s gender.
Which flowers to choose
We suggest flowers that may suit each occasion. Where a custom is documented, we explain it separately. For a personal gift you can choose another flower if you know the recipient will like it more.
Frequently asked questions
Can I give flowers to my father?
If you know he enjoys them they can be a personal gift. Choose for his preferences and space. Neither the colour nor the wrapping needs to be marketed as masculine.
Does it have to be a sunflower?
No. It is our cover suggestion. You can request gerberas, lisianthus or another flower he likes and confirm the format available.
Can I use the same calendar if he lives outside Argentina?
Check the date in the country where he celebrates. This guide applies to Argentina and does not establish a universal date.
Sources and what they support
- Tribunal Electoral de Misiones · Día del Padre argentino
Documents the third Sunday in June as the annual celebration in Argentina. Does not make that date universal or establish a particular flower as traditional.
- Dirección General de Escuelas de Mendoza · Ley 5.131
The official education page transcribes Article 1 of Law 5,131 and identifies it as in force: 24 August within the province. Does not establish a public holiday, current programmes or the date chosen by each family.
How we put these guides together
We consult institutional sources to check dates and customs. For plant facts, we use horticultural sources. Our gift ideas start with each flower’s appearance and the recipient’s taste. A shop link documents a particular offer. It does not prove that a flower is popular or part of a tradition. We keep adding to this selection rather than claiming to cover every species.
