Which flowers to give for the Day of Love and Friendship in Mexico
Mexico · Nationwide
In Mexico, 14 February is Valentine’s Day, also known as the Day of Love and Friendship. For your partner, choose red roses if they enjoy them; for a friend, gerberas or alstroemerias offer ways to use colour. Start with the person and how they will receive the bouquet.

A bouquet for your partner or a friend
Red roses are an option if they suit the person’s taste. For a friendship gift, choose gerberas for their open shape or alstroemerias to bring several colours together. A clear card helps express what you want to celebrate with that person.
You can choose the same kind of flower for a partner or a friend and vary the size, colour or message. With a small budget, give a few well-prepared stems prominence rather than asking for a bouquet so large that it is awkward to carry.
At home, while going out or at work
If you are going out for dinner, handing over the flowers at home first lets them go straight into water. For a meeting after work, a small bouquet is easier to carry. Explain the journey when ordering so the wrapping and preparation suit that use.
For a delivery to work, include the name, department or floor and a time window when they can receive it. If the building has a reception desk, follow its delivery instructions. An office address without those details may leave the bouquet waiting even if it arrives on time.
An example for a friendship gift
You could ask: “I would like a small gerbera bouquet for a friend on 14 February. She likes coral and yellow. I’ll collect it after work and give it to her at home. It needs to fit a vase on a small table.”
Give a total budget and explain what you want to keep if the flowers change: the size, those colours or a particular species. When ordering from abroad, write the date with the year and use local time at the Mexican address. The chosen date and delivery window are separate details.
A card that says what you are celebrating
For a friend you could write: “For the conversations that turn a day around, and the plans still to come.” For your partner: “I love sharing ordinary days with you too. Today these flowers are here to celebrate that.” Use the example that fits and add a detail of your own.
When the bouquet arrives, follow its preparation instructions and put the cut flowers in water. Choose a spot away from direct sunlight and heat. If you will spend several hours out, leave the gift at home or collect it close to the handover time.

Alstroemeria
Another option for a bouquet with several colours if it suits their taste. Choose a size they can comfortably carry or display.
