Ponteareas Corpus Christi: when to see the flower carpets
To watch Ponteareas’s flower carpets being made choose the night before Corpus Christi Sunday. To see them finished plan your visit before the procession. The local festival takes place on the Sunday after Corpus Christi Thursday and its date changes each year. In 2026 the main day was 7 June. Check your edition’s programme to arrange your visit.

Which date to check when planning your trip
Turismo de Galicia places Ponteareas’s celebration on the Sunday after Corpus Christi Thursday. It has no fixed date in June. For 2026 the council announced the main day on Sunday 7 June and the Noite do Corpus from Saturday 6 to Sunday 7 June. The Corpus Week programme also included activities before the main day.
Before booking decide whether you want to watch the overnight work or see the finished pieces. Then check that year’s announcement to confirm the date and hours. Do not use programmes from Ares, Bueu or Redondela to plan Ponteareas. Although they share Corpus Christi their events have their own schedules.
Overnight creation and the morning offer different visits
At night you can watch a drawing become a carpet on the street. The 2026 municipal information explains that teams work through the night to have the pieces ready at dawn. If you are interested in the process choose part of that night. You do not need to stay until the end to understand the work.
If you prefer the finished display find the procession time in the programme and arrive beforehand. The carpets are made for it to pass over and are not an exhibition that stays intact all Sunday. The 2026 municipal announcement places the procession in the morning. The 5pm time in that same announcement refers to a virtual reality experience rather than the procession.
When taking photos respect working areas and ask where you can cross. If someone in your group needs breaks choose a particular stretch rather than trying to cover the entire route. This gives you time to look at the details without rushing.
Which floral materials are prepared and how you can help
Ponteareas Tourism describes weeks of preparation in streets and building entrances. The work includes separating and preparing flowers and greenery before arranging them over patterns. Bringing a pretty bouquet is not enough. Each team coordinates colours, textures and quantities for a specific design.
To help contact a team before buying or collecting material. You could ask: “Would cultivated flowers in this colour be useful or do you need help preparing them? Please also tell me the quantity and who can receive them.” Agree how to prepare the material, when to deliver it and any substitutions. A tradition of using plants does not authorise collecting them in the countryside.
Planning a visit with access needs
In 2026 the council announced the Caminar juntos application with audio and text information. This helps explain the carpets but does not confirm that the entire route is suitable for a wheelchair. Ask Tourism about access to the stretch you want to see and crossing points during preparation and the procession.
If you cannot attend check the resources the council announces for that edition. In 2026 it announced streaming of the creation and procession through its YouTube channel. Do not assume that the same service will be available every year or that an old video is a live broadcast.
Outside Corpus Christi you can discover the carpets another way
Municipal Tourism describes the Museo do Corpus a Ceo Aberto. Its route uses QR codes to bring back images of carpets from past editions and explain their history. It offers an alternative when visiting Ponteareas outside the festival. This does not mean that fresh flower carpets are there throughout the year.
Before going check how to access those resources and prepare your phone to read the codes. To see floral material being arranged in person choose the Corpus Christi programme. Pontevedra’s Festa dos Maios is a separate Galician celebration with its own date and displays.
For another form of carpet-making consult the La Orotava guide. Its flower-covered streets are combined with a volcanic earth carpet in the town hall square. Its Infraoctava Thursday has a different date and programme from Ponteareas’s Sunday.
Frequently asked questions

On the Sunday after Corpus Christi Thursday. The date changes each year. The council announced 7 June for 2026 and overnight creation from 6 to 7 June. Check the announcement for the edition you will visit.
Is it better to visit at night or in the morning?
At night you can watch the carpets being made. To see them finished plan a visit before the procession. Find its time in the local programme and do not assume the pieces will remain intact in the afternoon.

First agree with a team what it needs and how it will receive it. Community preparation does not establish unrestricted acceptance of bouquets. You can also offer help with a task if no more material is needed.
Can you see flower carpets all year in Ponteareas?
The open-air museum introduces carpets from past editions through reconstructions and images accessed by QR codes. This is different from seeing fresh flowers on the street. For that check the Corpus Christi programme.

How we put these guides together
We consult institutional sources to check dates and customs. For plant facts, we use horticultural sources. Our gift ideas start with each flower’s appearance and the recipient’s taste. A shop link documents a particular offer. It does not prove that a flower is popular or part of a tradition. We keep adding to this selection rather than claiming to cover every species.
