Choosing flowers for Halloween
Orange gerberas are our suggestion for making color the focus. For a darker arrangement you could ask for burgundy carnations and a black container. The contrast with the vase helps create the atmosphere without choosing dark flowers throughout.
For a table with pumpkins and other decorations I would choose a single flower color. This lets the flowers stand out and leaves space for food. If you want locally grown flowers explain where the party will take place and leave room for what the florist can offer that week.
A gift for your host or flowers for your own party
If you are invited take a small arrangement that comes with its vase. Your host can put it down and carry on welcoming everyone. You could add a card saying “Thanks for having us. We’re looking forward to spending the evening with you.”
If you are setting the table choose a low arrangement and leave space for serving. An example order would be “I would like orange flowers in a dark container for a Halloween table. The arrangement needs to sit below our eye level when we are seated.” Give the dimensions of the free space so the florist can adjust the size.
Lighted pumpkins and flowers in separate containers
To combine a lighted pumpkin and a bouquet use a battery-operated light in the decoration. Keep decorations away from flames, light bulbs and heaters. LED candles create the lighting effect without putting a flame beside flowers and paper.
Keep the flowers in their own vase beside the pumpkin. You can move each piece and change the water without taking the decoration apart. If you are taking the display to another home plan to transport the container separately from the decorations.
