Flowers at the Ujué pilgrimage: crosses, dates and participation
On the pilgrimage from Tafalla to Ujué flowers decorate some wooden crosses. If you want to help with that preparation speak to the group carrying the cross before buying flowers. This is different from handing a bouquet to the sanctuary. For a private contribution ask the parish first and agree on reception.

Flowers accompany the crosses along the route
Tafalla Council describes wooden crosses decorated with flowers and flowering shrubs. This detail explains where flowers feature in the pilgrimage. It does not say that every person must bring a bouquet or identify a queue for handing one over on arrival.
If you are going with a group ask who prepares the cross and whether they need your help. You can contribute to an agreed decoration without ordering a bouquet on your own. The mention of wildflowers in tourist information is not an instruction to gather plants along the way. You can ask a florist about cultivated options for a decoration.
The date depends on which pilgrimage you choose
For Tafalla the council places the pilgrimage on the Sunday after St Mark’s Day on 25 April. The diocese documents the 26 April 2026 edition with Pitillas, Murillo del Fruto, Santacara and Beire. That reference does not set departure dates for every town that travels to Ujué.
The parish explains that pilgrimages from different towns begin in late April and continue on feast days in May. Look for the announcement for your town or group. September’s patronal festivities are a separate occasion: the Navarra Government leaflet places them in the week of 8 September. Check the programme for the edition you plan to visit.
Agree on a decoration or a sanctuary handover
To decorate a cross ask the group for the dimensions of the space they want to adorn and who will attach the flowers. Then tell the florist whether you will walk with it and how long the journey will take. As practical advice agree on a design that leaves the grip area clear and let the person carrying the cross confirm the result before setting off.
If you want to bring a bouquet to the sanctuary use the parish contact to ask. You could say: “Our family will visit Ujué and we would like to contribute flowers. Can you receive them that day? What format would be useful and where should we hand them over?” Visiting or Mass times do not themselves confirm flower reception.
Choose flowers after deciding how they will be used
The sources consulted do not set a main flower or required colour for private contributions. Before choosing a bouquet or decoration establish who will use it. For example, if your group has already prepared the cross you could help with transport instead of bringing flowers nobody has requested. If a sanctuary handover is agreed follow its presentation instructions.
The transport guide helps you prepare the journey once the format is decided. If you are looking for an announced flower offering check that event’s own conditions. The Valvanera guide distinguishes pilgrimage to the monastery from the offering by Logroño’s peñas, its local festival associations. A custom elsewhere is not a handover instruction for Ujué.
If you are looking for an event explicitly announced as a flower offering consult the Gràcia guide for Maó. Its 2026 programme combines pilgrimage and offering in a specific announcement. Do not transfer its departure point or conditions to Ujué: flowers serve different purposes on each route.
Frequently asked questions
Must I bring flowers to the Ujué pilgrimage?
The consulted sources describe flowers on some crosses and do not require every participant to bring a bouquet. Speak to your group if you want to help with decoration.
Do all towns make the pilgrimage on the same Sunday?
There is no single date for every pilgrimage. Tafalla uses the Sunday after 25 April as its reference. Check the announcement for the town you want to join.
Can I leave a bouquet at the sanctuary during a visit?
Ask the parish first. The opened sources document the pilgrimage and its decoration, but not general bouquet reception. If your contribution is accepted agree on the place and presentation.

How we put these guides together
We consult institutional sources to check dates and customs. For plant facts, we use horticultural sources. Our gift ideas start with each flower’s appearance and the recipient’s taste. A shop link documents a particular offer. It does not prove that a flower is popular or part of a tradition. We keep adding to this selection rather than claiming to cover every species.
