Hanukkah flowers in the US: gifts and table arrangements

For a Hanukkah dinner in the US I would choose a small bouquet with a vase that can stand away from the candles. You could request white lisianthus and add iris for contrast. A table arrangement needs different planning: it should leave room for the food and stand separately from the hanukkiah, the candelabrum used for the celebration.

Hanukkah dates in 2026 and when to give the flowers

In 2026 Hanukkah begins at sunset on Friday December 4 and ends at nightfall on Saturday December 12. It lasts eight days and nights. Its Gregorian dates change, so do not use December 4 as a fixed date for other years.

For a first-night dinner you can bring the bouquet or arrange daytime delivery when someone can receive it. The gathering time and local candle-lighting times are separate references. Plan the flowers around the actual visit rather than using one time for the whole United States.

Which flowers to request and where to put them

A bouquet of white lisianthus can work as a gift for the home. For contrast you could combine it with iris and choose from the shades the florist has. Blue and white are one Hanukkah decorating option; you can also choose colors the recipient enjoys without treating that palette as a requirement.

For an entryway I would request a compact bouquet with a vase. For a dinner centrepiece choose a low container and allow for serving dishes and place settings. The dinner-gift guide helps you decide between a personal gift and a contribution to the table.

Keep flowers and candles in separate spaces

Keep lit candles at least 12 inches (30.5 cm) from anything that can burn. That includes bouquet paper, ribbons and dried foliage. Do not weave flowers or branches between the arms of the hanukkiah or use the arrangement to support candles.

If the table cannot provide that separation put the vase on another piece of furniture. Flowers can accompany the gathering without surrounding the candelabrum. Wrapping for the journey and placement near a flame are different matters: remove the paper before finding a place for the gift.

An example order and card

You could ask: “I am going to a Hanukkah dinner on December 4, 2026. I would like a small bouquet with a vase for a side table. I like white flowers with some contrast. I will collect it in the afternoon and take it straight to the house.” For delivery add the address, ZIP code and a time slot when someone can receive it.

A card could say “Happy Hanukkah. Thank you for sharing this evening with us.” For someone you will not be visiting you could write “Happy Hanukkah. Sending you love and these flowers for your home.” Adapt these examples to your relationship.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to send flowers on the first night?

You can plan them for the night you meet or another day when someone can receive them. The celebration lasts eight days but that does not guarantee a bouquet will last that long. Choose the gift date around the visit and follow the flower-care instructions.

Are these flowers intended for a public lighting?

This suggestion is for a home. For a public event follow the organizer’s decoration and delivery conditions. Do not bring an arrangement assuming you can place it around the hanukkiah.
