Flowers for the Virgen de la Cabeza in Antas: offering and handover

Before taking flowers to the Virgen de la Cabeza offering in Antas, confirm the date and handover point. If no other flower is requested, you can suggest a small rose bouquet. Bouquets may be received on a different day from the patronal feast. Do not arrange delivery to a hermitage simply because you recognise its name.

Colour and shape vary between cultivars. Use it as a visual reference rather than to identify a plant.

Find the offering in the Antas programme

The council describes the festivities as taking place in the days around 8 September. To take flowers, find the offering in that edition’s programme. The fair, the pilgrimage and bouquet reception are separate activities.

The council’s 2025 book scheduled the offering for Friday 5 September at 20:30 in Era del Lugar. In the 2026 interview, the mayor places it on a Saturday. These references belong to those editions and help distinguish handover from the 8th. Before planning another trip, check the new programme and ask when flowers will be received.

Era del Lugar and Cabezo María are different destinations

Municipal information distinguishes the Cabezo María hermitage from the Era del Lugar hermitage and the parish church. The mayor describes the offering beside the Virgin in the Era hermitage during the festivities. If you travel from elsewhere, check the event location before choosing a route.

For a delivery, give the florist the agreed reception point and the name of the person receiving it. Writing only ‘Virgen de la Cabeza, Antas’ does not settle where the bouquet should go. A church address does not confirm that someone will be there to accept an order either.

Choose flowers and arrange a family contribution

The mayor mentions bouquets and roses when describing the offering. You can start with roses and order a hand-tied bouquet that is comfortable to carry. We do not present them as compulsory or specify a colour. Follow any format requested by the organisers. Carnations are another editorial suggestion if that type of bouquet is accepted.

For example, if you are leaving Vera with a bouquet on behalf of your family, ask beforehand: ‘We will collect the flowers before setting off. Do we hand them over in Era del Lugar, and who receives them?’ You can then arrange collection around the journey and avoid arriving at the wrong place. If you will walk through part of town, tell the florist so they can prepare protection.

Our transport and delivery guides help you plan the journey and reception. For other celebrations in Almería province, consult their own guides. Instructions for Saliente in Albox or the Virgen del Mar in Almería do not apply to Antas simply because they are all in Andalusia.

Which flowers to choose

We suggest flowers that may suit each occasion. Where a custom is documented, we explain it separately. For a personal gift you can choose another flower if you know the recipient will like it more.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Antas flower offering always on 8 September?

We have not verified an annual rule for that activity. The council places the festivities around the 8th and the mayor describes a Saturday offering in 2026. Check the programme before booking delivery.

Do I have to bring roses in a particular colour?

The mayor’s statement documents roses and bouquets but does not require a species or colour. Roses or carnations are our suggestions to discuss with the organisers. Adjust the order if they request something else.

Can I send the bouquet straight to Cabezo María?

Do not infer the destination from the Virgin’s name. The Cabezo María and Era del Lugar hermitages are different places. First agree on the delivery point and a person to receive the bouquet.

Sources and what they support

How we put these guides together

We consult institutional sources to check dates and customs. For plant facts, we use horticultural sources. Our gift ideas start with each flower’s appearance and the recipient’s taste. A shop link documents a particular offer. It does not prove that a flower is popular or part of a tradition. We keep adding to this selection rather than claiming to cover every species.
