Flowers for Our Lady of San Lorenzo in Valladolid

Valladolid · Local

Our Lady of San Lorenzo is celebrated on 8 September in Valladolid. That is the date this occasion includes. If you want to bring flowers to the offering check its announcement before ordering. The council announced it for 6 September in 2026. To contribute to the floral mantle ask which format is accepted. A bouquet to give someone at home can be prepared differently.

8 September is Valladolid’s patronal feast

Municipal tourism describes 8 September as the main day of the patronal celebrations. The diocesan agenda and municipal programme for 2026 identify that date too. This occasion carries the label Valladolid · Local and appears when you select Castile and León.

Imports and subscriptions include the feast. They do not automatically add the flower offering or every activity in the festivities. Nor do they represent a public holiday calendar.

The floral mantle, veneration and procession are separate acts

Valladolid’s tourism description places the floral mantle before a replica of Our Lady in the forecourt of San Lorenzo church. It identifies the space on Calle Pedro Niño. Veneration of the image inside the church and the procession to the cathedral are other acts.

The municipal programme for 2025 placed the offering on 31 August. The municipal programme for 2026 announced the offering for 6 September and the procession and Mass for the 8th. Before attending find the announcement for the edition you plan to visit. The historical reference to a Sunday during the novena is not enough to calculate a future receiving date.

Ask how your flowers will be used

The 2025 programme invited people to bring a bouquet to the forecourt on 31 August. That invitation helps explain participation that year. For a later edition check the new announcement before assuming that the same conditions apply.

To contribute flowers to the mantle ask the brotherhood how they are received and who adds them. Find out whether they need stems for the display or accept a prepared bouquet. The florist can then follow the intended use you have confirmed.

Ask about colours and what to do with wrapping at handover too. The sources consulted do not publish a required species or colour. I would not suggest arriving with a finished arrangement before checking whether it suits the contribution.

Choose between a contribution and a personal gift

You could ask about carnations once the organisers have explained the mantle’s format. They are our reference for this page rather than a requirement set by the brotherhood. If the display needs another flower follow that instruction instead of the image.

For someone celebrating the feast at home you could choose lisianthus in their favourite colour. A container may make reception easier if they return after the celebrations. That gift does not need to go to the church or become part of the offering.

An order that explains where the flowers will go

For example, your family might agree a contribution to the mantle and ask one person to check the format. Once confirmed tell the florist the requested flower and agreed quantity. Add the receiving date and who will deliver it. There is no need to turn it into a gift bouquet if the stems will be used in the display.

If you want a gift for a relative give their home address and when they will be there. Avoid using the cathedral as a destination just because it appears in the procession route. If you transport flowers ask for protection suited to your journey and agree where you can leave them on arrival.

Which flowers to choose

We suggest flowers that may suit each occasion. Where a custom is documented, we explain it separately. For a personal gift you can choose another flower if you know the recipient will like it more.

Frequently asked questions

When is Our Lady of San Lorenzo celebrated in Valladolid?

On 8 September. This occasion includes that local feast within Castile and León. Check the flower offering date separately in each edition’s programme.

Is the flower offering also on 8 September?

Do not assume so. The municipal programme for 2025 placed it on 31 August and the 2026 announcement scheduled it for 6 September. The feast and flower delivery are separate references.

Should flowers be delivered to the cathedral?

Municipal tourism describes the floral mantle in San Lorenzo’s forecourt on Calle Pedro Niño. The cathedral appears in the procession and Mass programme. Confirm your contribution’s receiving location before sending flowers.

Do I have to bring carnations?

The sources consulted do not establish that requirement. They are our reference suggestion. To contribute to the mantle ask which flower, colour and format the organisers need.

Is this the same occasion as San Lorenzo in Huesca?

No. This page covers Our Lady of San Lorenzo in Valladolid on 8 September. The San Lorenzo offering in Huesca has a different date and its own calendar and programme.

How we put these guides together

We consult institutional sources to check dates and customs. For plant facts, we use horticultural sources. Our gift ideas start with each flower’s appearance and the recipient’s taste. A shop link documents a particular offer. It does not prove that a flower is popular or part of a tradition. We keep adding to this selection rather than claiming to cover every species.
