Estíbaliz: when to visit and what to check before bringing flowers
To visit Estíbaliz for its feast look for 12 September and check the local programme’s main day too. In 2026 that was Sunday the 13th. The 1 May fair is a different celebration. Ask the sanctuary first if you want to bring flowers. A flower offering is documented in 2023, but that programme does not confirm reception for your visit.

Choose the celebration before planning travel
The Diocese of Vitoria distinguishes the liturgical feast on 12 September from the sanctuary’s main celebration. In 2026 it announced the latter for Sunday the 13th with Mass at noon and a procession afterwards. Noon is the time of Mass, not an exact procession departure. For another edition check its own programme.
The Desagravios fair was held there on 1 May 2026 within the Fiestas de Álava. It is a different day from the September feast. If you only have one morning choose the event you want before finalising transport. The title of patron saint of Álava does not turn any sanctuary visit into a provincial flower offering.
An offering in another edition does not confirm current reception
The diocesan September 2023 programme announced a flower offering on the main day, Sunday the 10th. This documents an activity in that edition. The announcement and poster for the 2026 festivities describe other events without confirming a flower delivery time. That does not prove flowers are refused. It means you need to ask before buying.
Ask whether there will be an offering on your chosen day and whether you can participate. Then confirm the format, place and person receiving contributions. Do not use Mass time as delivery time or general access to the festivities as permission to place flowers wherever you like. The Virgin of Light guide for Cuenca shows another case with its own floral programme.
For a group trip agree on the visit and flowers separately
The diocesan Estíbaliz page provides contact with the Peregrinas de la Eucaristía sisters and a date request for groups. This is a channel for planning a pilgrimage to the sanctuary in Villafranca, Álava. An agreed visit does not by itself confirm a floral contribution or a florist’s delivery.
You could write: “We are visiting Estíbaliz as a group and would like to bring flowers. Will there be an offering that day? If we can participate we need to know the format and where flowers are received.” Resolve these conditions first. Simply visiting the site need not involve ordering flowers. Stall registration rules for the fair are not offering registration rules either.
Order the format that has been confirmed
If the organisers accept a bouquet to carry by hand ask for a size you can hold during the journey. If they need stems for an arrangement pass on their instructions rather than ordering a decorative bouquet. The sources consulted do not specify a required species or colour for a current contribution. Leave that choice open until you have an answer.
For direct delivery agree on who will be there and the address and time to give the florist. The sanctuary’s name alone is not enough. If you will carry the flowers yourself tell the florist about the route and waits before handing them over. The transport guide helps once the format and destination are confirmed.
If you are planning another visit to the Virgin of Soledad in Badajoz consult its guide to separate the offering day from the feast. It also distinguishes club invitations. The delivery location depends on the event; knowing the chapel’s address is not enough.
Frequently asked questions
Are Estíbaliz’s feast and the 1 May fair the same event?
No. The fair took place on 1 May 2026 and the liturgical feast is on 12 September. September’s main celebration may have another date in that edition’s programme.
Can I use the 2023 flower offering times?
Not as times for your visit. The 2023 programme documents that offering, not reception in another year. Ask about the programme for the day you want to attend.
Which flowers should I bring to Estíbaliz?
First confirm whether flowers are received and in what form. The sources reviewed do not specify a required species or colour for a current contribution. Do not buy a bouquet based on an altar photo.
Does booking a pilgrimage allow me to send a bouquet?
It does not confirm that. Agree separately on the contribution and its recipient. A visiting date and the sanctuary’s address do not replace that agreement.

How we put these guides together
We consult institutional sources to check dates and customs. For plant facts, we use horticultural sources. Our gift ideas start with each flower’s appearance and the recipient’s taste. A shop link documents a particular offer. It does not prove that a flower is popular or part of a tradition. We keep adding to this selection rather than claiming to cover every species.
